ACHIEVEMENT  OF TECHNICAL EDUCATION  DURING PRESENT GOVT.

Ø                 During the year 2008-09, one Government Polytechnic at Talwar, Tehsil Jaisinghpur, District Kangra, three Polytechnics in the private sector i.e. Badhoo in Mandi, Bani in Hamirpur and Kala Amb in Sirmour Districts have been opened. 

Ø               Three B. Pharmacy Colleges i.e. School of Pharmacy, Bhojal in Solan, Himachal Institute of Dental Sciences Rampur Ghat Road, Paonta Sahib in Sirmour and Vinayak College of Pharmacy in Kullu have also been started in the private sector.

Ø               One new engineering college i.e L.R. Institute of Engineering and Technology, Solan  has also been started in the private sector.

Ø                With the efforts of State Govt. the Govt. of India has agreed to set up of IIT in Himachal Pradesh at Mandi District and National Institute of Fashion Technology(NIFT) at Kangra.  

Ø               The Govt. has made  efforts for setting up of Indian Institute of Information Technology at District Una.

Ø                  20 ITIs has been covered under PPP Mode and Grant in Aid amounting to Rs. 50 Crore @ 2.50 Crore per ITI in the shape of seed money has been received from Govt. of India.

Ø                  A sum of Rs. 3.16 Crore has been received out of Rs. 3.60 Crore from GOI as central assistance (domestic funding) for the upgradation of three existing  ITIs  namely Una, Solan and Rampur into Centres of Excellence.

Ø                8 ITIs namely Shahpur, Nahan, Mandi, Shimla, Chamba, Nadaun, Shamshi and Reckong Peo have been upgraded into Centres of Excellence (VTIP Mode) with World Bank assistance with an approved plan of Rs. 26.50 crore out of which Rs. 12.03 crores has been received during the current financial year 2008-2009.

Ø                3 more ITIs namely Shimla(W), Mandi(W) and Rongtong have also been approved for upgradation under COE with an outlay of Rs. 6 Crore, which is yet to be received from GOI.

Ø               16 ITIs have been covered under Skill Development Initiative (SDI) Scheme based on Modular Employable Skills and grant-in-aid amounting to  Rs. 1.18 Crore  has been received from GOI.

Ø               163 posts of different categories have been created and their filling up is in active process. 

Ø                The Government has also decided to convert the services of 74 class-IV employees appointed on fixed pay to contract basis.

Ø                Out of 84 posts reserved under persons with disabilities schemes, 38 posts have been filled up in different categories  and remaining posts are being filled up shortly for which interviews were also held by the department.

Ø                Government Polytechnic, Rohru has been awarded the Best Polytechnic during the year. 

Ø               Three Govt. Polytechnics Sundernagar, Hamirpur, Kandaghat have been covered under the World Bank Assisted Technical Education Quality Improvement Programme(TEQIP). Rs. 7.24 Crore has been sanctioned. Which has been utilized and in addition to this Rs. 75.00 Lacshas been received from GOI.

Ø                 In the current financial year out of Rs. 25.91 Crore a sum of 19.75 Crore has been utilized for the construction of Buildings and Hostel.

Ø                 During the financial year 2008-09 out of the plan outlay budget of          Rs. 27.60 Crore an expenditure of Rs. 20.10 Crores has been made. Under Non-Plan Budget  out of Rs. 32.95 Crore an expenditure Rs. 19.76 Crore has been made.
