Proposed Action Plan of the Department

Opening of at least one polytechnic in each district:-
As per the policy of the GOI at least one polytechnic
is to be opened in each district of the State. These
polytechnics will be established primarily with
central funding. As per this decision five new
polytechnics are to be opened in districts Sirmour,
Kullu, Bilaspur, Kinnuar and Lahaul & Spiti where
there is no polytechnic at present. In big district
like Mandi, Kangra and Shimla there can be more then
one polytechnic. All the Deputy Commissioner of these
districts have been requested to identify suitable
land as per norms prescribed by AICTE. DPRs of all the
newly proposed polytechnics will be prepared and
submitted accordingly to the GOI.

Opening of atleast one ITI in left out assembly
segments:-
The department is proposed to open ITI in left out
assembly segments in the State.

Addition of of New Discipline at JNEC Sundernagar:-
At present in JNEC Sundernagar there are only two
disciplines i.e. Mechanical and Textile Engineering.
It is proposed to introduce two more discipline i.e.
Civil and Electrical Engineering from the academic
session 2009-10.

Increase in intake in B-Pharmacy College Rohru:-
In B-Pharmacy College Rohru intake is 40 and classes
are being run in Govt. Polytechnic building. The
building of B-Pharmacy college is likely to be
completed Jaunary,2009 and classes will be sifted to
new building. It is proposed to increase the intake of
the college from 40 to 60 for optimum utilization of
space as there will be sufficient space in the newly
constructed building.

Addition of new Discipline at Govt. Polytechnic Rohru:-
At present their are only two diploma programmes i.e.
Electronics & Communication Engineering and
D-Pharmacy being run in the institute. Department
proposes to introduce two more branches in Computer
and Electrical Engineering from next academic session
i.e. 2009-10. As their will be adequate infrastructure
available due to shifting of pharmacy college.

Introduction of double shift in polytechnics:-
Department is planning to introduce double shift in
Civil and Mechanical Engineering at Govt. Polytechnic
Sundernagar and Hamirpur and Electronics &
Communication and Mechanical Engineering at Govt.
Polytechnic Kangra from next academic session i.e.
2009-10. At one hand it will increase intake capacity
of polytechnics and will also ensure optimum
utilization of resources as adequate infrastructure is
available.

Introduction of new Job Oriented Certificate Courses:-
The Department is preparing a proposal for
introduction of new job oriented courses in ITIs /ITCs
and VTCs in consultation with other departments like
Department of Industry, Labour and Employment, Power,
Ayurveda, Rural Development, Social Justice and
Empowerment, I&PH, and PWD as well as PHD Chamber of
Commerce and CII Himachal Chapter.

Opening of IIT in Himachal Pradesh:-
The GOI has sanctioned IIT for Himachal
Pradesh and it will be
functional from the academic session 2009-2010
with an initial capacity of 120 seats. It has also
been conveyed by the GOI vide their letter dated 21st
July,2008 that IIT Roorkee will mentor’ the new IIT in
Himachal Pradesh for the first two three years and
Director IIT Rurkee will also be the Director of IIT
Himachal Pradesh
for
setting up the IIT at Kamand, which is about 16
K.M. from Mandi town and a complete proposal in this
regard has already been submitted to GOI. To
start the classes in the first year, the state
government had identified the building of academic
block of Vallabh Government College for the institute.
Accordingly
the Site Selection Committee constituted by GOI
comprising four members committee namely Sh. N.K.
Sinha, IAS Joint Secretary, Deptt. Of Higher
Education, Prof. S.C. Saxena, Director IIT Roorkee,
Dr. Renu Batra, Joint Secretary, University Grant
Commission and Prof. Narain Rao, Member Secretary of
AICTE had visited the identified site at Kamand on
16th October,2008 alonghwith temporary premises at
Vallabh Government College Mandi and Mandav Hotel of
the State Tourism Development Corporation, PWD rest
house and after inspection the final report will be
submitting to MHRD for final approval.
