Setting up IIT in Mandi with Central Assistance

The Government has already suggested temporary premises in the Govt. Post Graduate College, Mandi to run  IIT classes for 1st year in the initial phase. 

       The Site Selection Committee constituted by GOI comprising four members committee namely    Sh. N.K. Sinha, IAS Joint Secretary, Deptt. Of Higher Education, Prof. S.C. Saxena, Director IIT Roorkee, Dr. Renu Batra, Joint Secretary, University Grant Commission and Prof. Narain Rao, Member Secretary of AICTE had visited the identified site at Kamand on 16th October,2008 alonghwith temporary premises at Vallabh Government College Mandi and Mandav Hotel of the State Tourism Development Corporation, PWD rest house and after inspection the final report will be submitting to MHRD for final approval.

2. 56 Preparing District wise Plan to bridge the skills gaps

Modular Employable Scheme (MES) has been started in 16 ITIs in H.P. and these ITIs have been registered as Vocational Training Provider (VTP) under skill development initiatives scheme with Regional Directorate of apprenticeship  Training Faridabad under the Minister of Labour & Employment to impart the vocational training both informal & formal sectors to the skilled, semiskilled & unskilled youth of the State.

3. 56 Strengthening placement cells in each institutions to promote greater on campus recruitment Placement Cells have been setup in each institutions & also being strengthened to promote maximum placement on campus recruitment
4. 57 A total plan provision of Rs. 27.6 crore is proposed for the next financial year to meet the investment requirements of technical education. If required this amount will be suitably enhanced the better train our unemployed youth. The total plan provisions of Rs. 27.60 crore has been approved for the year 2008-09 to meet the expenditure for the construction work of various institutions.

Technical Educational, Vocational & Industrial Training will play a vital role in enhancing the employability skills of the youth of Himachal Pradesh. To meet the skill needs of Industry, this sector requires close coordination with the private industrial sector. The department plans to prepare district wise plan to bridge the skill gaps and the courses will be reoriented as per need of the industrial and service sector. Placement of trained youth will be ensured and encouraged through campus interviews.

  • 10 Industrial Training Institutes have been upgraded in to Centre of Excellence (COE), where multi skill developing program is already going on.

  • 9 ITIs have been upgraded under Public Private Partnership(PPP) mode, 13 more ITIs are proposed to be upgraded under this scheme during this financial year.

  • Placement Cells have been created in every institution and are being strengthened to ensure campus interview.

  • rivate sector is being encouraged to set up more and more technical education institutes of Degree, Diploma and Certificate level courses.
